SAN ANTONIO (Nov. 5, 2019) – Last week the Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's soccer team punched its ticket to the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Semifinals after winning the opening round.
The Saints have qualified for the postseason nine out of their 13 seasons. The men have won two regular-season titles – in 2012 and in 2016 – and one tournament trophy in 2012.
As the No. 3 seed, the Saints overpowered No. 6 Texas A&M University – Texarkana in the opening round at OLLU. The Saints won 2-1 to end the Eagles season and advance to the semifinals round. Originally scheduled for Nov. 7, the semifinals have been moved to Nov. 8 because of inclement weather in the area. The Saints will face No. 2 LSU-Shreveport at 6:30 p.m. The tournament is being hosted by Texarkana.
With a win in the semifinals, the Saints advance to the tournament championships to play either No. 4 LSU-Alexandria or No. 1 University of Houston-Victoria on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m.
The Saints finished out the regular season with an 11-5-2 overall record and 6-2-1 in conference. During the season, the Saints defeated Shreveport 2-1. The Saints hold the all-time record against the Pilots 4-2. In 2010, the Saints won 1-0, and in 2011, 3-1. The Pilots defeated the Saints in 2012, 1-0. The Pilots ended their soccer program in the 2013 season and returned to compete again in 2017. In that year, the Saints won 1-0 and last season, the Pilots won 1-0.
The Pilots are the only RRAC team ranked in the NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll. They are No. 21, while Houston-Victoria received votes in the poll. The Pilots' overall record this year is 11-4-3 and in conference, 7-1-1.
