SANTA BARBARA, CALIF. (Nov. 24, 2019) - The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's basketball team lost to The Master's University (TMU) 85-68 on Saturday to finish play in the Westmont Classic. No. 4 ranked TMU remains undefeated on the season at 8-0, and the Saints drop to 2-3.
Coach Stacy Stephens commented on the game, saying, "The Master's is a tough team. They have lots of height and length and made getting shots difficult. Our team responded from last night with the energy and effort that are expected of OLLU women's basketball. We will continue to work on playing at our pace and tempo."
This is the second matchup in the series and TMU leads 1-0 with a victory in 2017.
Jamia Miller (SR/Odessa, Texas) led the Saints in scoring with 18 points. Kasey Saldana (SR/San Antonio, Texas) scored 13 points, followed by Sarah Mgbeike (JR/Richmond, Texas) with seven. Zerina Shatri (JR/Prishtine, Kosovo) led the Saints with seven rebounds, followed by Dezeree White (SO/Houston, Texas) with six. White led the team with four assists.
TMU was led by Stephanie Soares with 18 points. Soares, Hannah Ostrom, and Jessica Soares led the team with 10 rebounds each. Anika Neuman and Sabrina Thompson each had a team-leading three assists.
Inside the box
OLLU combined for 24-of-69 shooting for 34.8 percent, 8-of-24 from three-point range for 33.3 percent and 12-of-13 from the free-throw line for 92.3 percent. The Master's shot 25-of-60 for 42.6 percent, 11-of-33 three-pointers for 33.3 percent and 22-of-26 from the free-throw line for 84.6 percent.
The Saints grabbed 34 rebounds while the Mustangs collected 49. OLLU forced 25 turnovers and committed 16.
The Saints return home for the Saints Halo Classic starting on Nov. 29 against Panhandle State University at 4 p.m.
