LAKELAND, FLA. (Nov. 26, 2019) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's basketball team fell to Southeastern University (SEU) 110-64 on Tuesday. The Saints drop to 3-5 on the season while Southeastern improves to 6-1.
Head Coach Chris Dial said, "For everything we did right 36 hours ago against Eckerd, we did them wrong and then some. We had a poor and disappointing effort. I give credit to Southeastern for their performance."
This is the first matchup between the two programs.
Southeastern came out strong in the first half leading 30-12 midway through. The Saints struggled by shooting 26.7 percent from the field and allowed the Fire to score 20 points off turnovers. OLLU trailed 63-29 at halftime and the Fire grabbed 34 rebounds in the first half alone.
The Fire continued their dominant play in the second half by shooting 46.2 percent from the three-point line and led by 50 points at one point. The Saints grabbed three more offensive rebounds than Southeastern and made 11 steals. Southeastern's 110 points are the most the Saints have allowed this season.
Jared Embry (SR/Paris, Texas) and Tyler Giron (SO/Houston, Texas) led the Saints in scoring with 10 points each. Aidan Torres (SO/Houston, Texas) followed with nine points. Giron led the Saints with five rebounds, followed by Embry and Ruben Monzon (SO/San Diego, Calif.) with four each. Christian Fields (JR/Kerrville, Texas) finished with a team-high three assists.
Blake Morrow led the Fire with 24 points. Devon Ford led the team with 10 rebounds. Jeremy Oppenheimer, Reggie Mesidor and Al Talent-Fitzgerald tallied three assists each.
Inside the box
OLLU combined for 20-of-73 shooting for 27.4 percent, 7-of-37 from three-point range for 18.9 percent and 17-of-23 from the free-throw line for 73.9 percent. Southeastern shot 37-of-69 for 53.6 percent, 10-of-23 three pointers for 43.5 percent and 26-of-34 from the free-throw line for 76.5 percent.
The Saints grabbed 31 rebounds while the Fire collected 64. OLLU forced 29 turnovers and committed 19.
The Saints play their first Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) game against Paul Quinn College in Dallas on Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m.
