SAN ANTONIO (Nov. 30, 2019) – The No. 6 Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's basketball team lost to No. 3 Oklahoma City University (OCU) 93-85 on Saturday. The Saints fall to 3-4 on the season and the Stars remain undefeated at 7-0.
This is the ninth meeting between the teams and the Stars lead the series 6-3.
The Saints started with an early 6-3 lead after Dezeree White (SO/Houston, Texas) hit two free throws and a field goal. The Stars responded by going on a run and leading 14-8 midway through the first quarter. The Saints answered with a run of their own and led 26-19 after the first quarter. OLLU started the second quarter strong just like they did in the first and raced to a 13-point lead. The Saints led by six points to finish the first half. Sarah Mgbeike (JR/Richmond, Texas) led the team with 16 points and seven rebounds.
Oklahoma City took control of the third quarter and cut the Saints lead to one point. The Stars drew fouls and pulled ahead by four points after making free throws. OCU led by one-point heading into the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter was evenly matched until the Stars went on a nine-point run that started with 2:30 remaining. The Stars held on to win by eight points to stay undefeated.
Kasey Saldana (SR/San Antonio, Texas) led the Saints in scoring with 26 points, hitting 7-of-28 from the field and making 6-of-10 from the three-point line. Mgbeike scored 18 points, followed by Jamia Miller (SR/Odessa, Texas) with nine. Mgbeike led the Saints with 10 rebounds, followed by Angeline Sanchez (FR/Cibolo, Texas) with eight. Sanchez led the Saints with five assists.
OCU was led by Mallory Lockhart with 25 points. NaShyla Hammons led the team with 14 rebounds. Taylor Sylvester and Erika Ankney contributed a team-high three assists each.

OLLU combined for 32-of-70 shooting for 45.7 percent, 8-of-26 from three-point range for 30.8 percent and 13-of-15 from the free-throw line for 86.7 percent. OCU shot 27-of-69 for 39.1 percent, 5-of-22 three pointers for 22.7 percent and 34-of-40 from the free-throw line for 85 percent.
The Saints grabbed 38 rebounds while the Stars collected 47. OLLU forced 13 turnovers and committed 17.
The Saints begin Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) play against Paul Quinn College in Dallas on Dec 5. at 5:30 p.m.
