SAN ANTONIO (Dec. 13, 2019) - The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's basketball team demolished Texas College (TC) by 73 points - the largest margin of victory in Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) games for OLLU and the third-largest all-time. The 121-48 win on Thursday moves the No. 16-ranked OLLU to 6-4 overall and 3-0 in conference. Texas College drops to 2-7 overall and 0-3 in conference. The Saints have now won 13 straight home conference games.
This is the 21st matchup against Texas College, and the Saints are 18-2. OLLU has held the Steers winless since 2011.
Texas College kept up with the Saints' pace through most of the first quarter. With 2:13 remaining in the period, the Saints went on an 11-point run to lead by 19 heading into the second quarter. OLLU held the Steers to 12 points in the second quarter and tallied six steals. Jamia Miller (SR/Odessa, Texas) finished the first half with 24 points to guide the Saints to a 63-25 lead at the break.
The Saints dominated the second half and led by 52 points at the end of the third quarter. The Saints recorded 46 total rebounds, including 11 from Sarah Mgbeike (JR/Richmond, Texas) - a career-high. In the fourth quarter, the Saints led by 74 points with a little more than two minutes remaining. OLLU finished shooting 50 percent from the field and limited the Steers to 28.4 percent.
Miller led the Saints in scoring with 26 points - a career-high for her. She made 7-of-12 from the field, six of those were three-pointers, and was perfect on the charity stripe at 6-for-6. Kasey Saldana (SR/San Antonio, Texas) scored 19 points, including 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. Tiffany Lopez (FR/San Antonio, Texas) scored a career-high 18 points - all in the fourth quarter. After Mgbeike's 11 rebounds, was Lena Wilson (SR/Converse, Texas) with eight. Keviona Barber (JR/Chicago, Ill.) and Angeline Sanchez (FR/Cibolo, Texas) both finished with a team-high five assists.
TC was led by Dejah Stewart with 22 points. Jazymne Hicks led the team with 10 rebounds. Lynzie Brigham led the Steers with two assists.
Inside the box
OLLU combined for 41-of-82 shooting for 50 percent, 10-of-32 from three-point range for 31.3 percent and 29-of-36 from the free-throw line for 80.6 percent. Texas College shot 19-of-67 for 28.4 percent, 4-of-20 three pointers for 20 percent and 6-of-15 from the free-throw line for 40 percent.
The Saints grabbed 56 rebounds while the Steers collected 45. OLLU forced 37 turnovers and committed 15.
