SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 10, 2020) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's basketball team suffered its first Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) loss this season 65-61 against LSU-Shreveport (LSUS) on Thursday. The Saints fall to 12-5 overall and 4-1 in conference, while the Pilots improve to 11-3 overall and 5-0 in conference.
This is the 28th meeting between the teams and the Saints lead the series 15-12.
The Saints struggled in the first quarter shooting 26.7 percent from the field. Despite hitting only half of their free throws, OLLU trailed by two points heading into the second quarter. The Pilots found their stride and led by 13 points at halftime. The Saints shot 27.6 percent from the field in the first half and 50 percent from the free-throw line. Sarah Mgbeike (JR/Richmond, Texas) tallied seven rebounds in the first half.
LSUS maintained its lead during the third quarter and led by double-digits for the majority of the second half. The Saints cut the lead to four points on three separate occasions in the fourth quarter but failed to tie the game. OLLU finished with a season-low 61 points.
Dezeree White (SO/Houston, Texas) led the Saints in scoring with 19 points, followed by Mgbeike with 15. Mgbeike and White led the team with nine rebounds each. Lena Wilson (SR/Converse, Texas) led the Saints with seven assists.
LSUS was led by Fu'tra Banks with 20 points. DeAuja Thompson and Sabrina Brinks led the team with eight rebounds each. Sabrina Banks contributed a team-high five assists.
Inside the box
OLLU combined for 20-of-65 shooting for 30.8 percent, 3-of-17 from three-point range for 17.6 percent and 18-of-27 from the free-throw line for 66.7 percent. LSUS shot 22-of-49 for 44.9 percent, 6-of-13 three pointers for 46.2 percent and 15-of-20 from the free-throw line for 75 percent.
Both teams collected 40 rebounds. OLLU forced 28 turnovers and committed 20.
