SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 10, 2020) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's basketball team lost to LSU-Shreveport (LSUS) 106-64 on Thursday. The Saints drop to 4-11 overall and remain winless at 0-5 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). NAIA No. 6 ranked LSU-Shreveport improves to 15-1 overall and 5-0 in conference.
This is the 22nd meeting between the two teams, and the Pilots lead the series 11-10.
The Pilots jumped out to a quick 15-point lead halfway through the first half. They shot 55.6 percent from the field grabbed 21 rebounds. Despite being down 15 points at halftime the Saints shot 44.4 percent from the field led by Victor Roper (FR/San Antonio, Texas) with 13 points. Roper also led the team at the half with six rebounds.
LSUS dominated the second half by shooting 59.7 percent from the field. They scored 56 points in the final frame and won the game by 42. The Saints were limited to 39.7 percent shooting and were unable to match the tempo of the Pilots. Roper finished with 18 points and seven rebounds.
Roper led the team with 18 points, followed with Michael Saladin (SR/Beaumont, Texas) with 14. Roper led the Saints with seven rebounds. Marlon Williams (JR/Jacksonville, Fla.) had a team-high two assists.
LSUS was led by Tra'Quan Knight with 31 points. Knight and Gilbert Thomas led the team with 10 rebounds each. Thomas contributed a team-high three assists.
Inside the box
OLLU combined for 25-of-63 shooting for 39.7 percent, 4-of-21 from three-point range for 19 percent and 10-of-13 from the free-throw line for 76.9 percent. The Pilots shot 37-of-62 for 59.7 percent, 10-of-23 three pointers for 43.5 percent and 22-of-29 from the free-throw line for 75.9 percent.
The Saints grabbed 26 rebounds while the Pilots collected 43. OLLU forced 12 turnovers and committed 15.
The Saints take on LSU-Alexandria at home on Jan. 11 at 4 p.m.
