SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 11, 2020) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's basketball team fell to LSU-Alexandria (LSUA) 89-82. The Saints fall to 4-12 overall and remain winless at 0-6 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The NAIA No. 12 ranked Generals climb to 14-4 overall and 6-0 in conference.
This is the 13th meeting between the Saints and Generals. LSU-Alexandria leads the series 10-2 and have won four straight games against OLLU.
The Saints started strong and pulled out to a 6-2 lead aided by five points from Ruben Monzon (SO/San Diego, Calif.). OLLU led for most of the second half and shot 46.7 percent from the field. Monzon tallied 21 points and six rebounds at the half. The Saints defense limited the Generals offense resulting in 31.3 percent shooting from the field.
The Saints seven-point lead to start the second half was quickly erased and the game was tied 56-56 halfway through. The Generals jumped out to a 12-point lead and won the game by seven points. The Saints cut the lead to four with three minutes remaining but failed to get any closer. Despite the loss, OLLU shot 53.4 percent from the field and Monzon finished with a season-high 31 points. LSU-Alexandria forced 21 turnovers and remain in first in the RRAC standings.
Monzon led the Saints with 31 points, followed by Michael Saladin (SR/Beaumont, Texas) with 18 and Marlon Williams (JR/Jacksonville, Fla.) with 11. Monzon tallied a team-high eight rebounds. Darin Minniefield (JR/Houston, Texas) led the team with four assists.
JR Adams led the Generals with 29 points. Chris Vickers led the team with 10 rebounds and added 20 points to earn a double-double. Brandon Ellis tallied a team-high three assists.

OLLU combined for 31-of-58 shooting for 53.4 percent, 6-of-21 from three-point range for 28.6 percent and 14-of-20 from the free-throw line for 70 percent. LSU-Alexandria shot 29-of-73 for 39.7 percent, 8-of-27 three pointers for 29.6 percent and 23-of-35 from the free-throw line for 65.7 percent.
The Saints grabbed 40 rebounds while the Generals collected 41. OLLU forced six turnovers and committed 21.
The Saints head to Texarkana, Texas to face Texas A&M University-Texarkana on Jan. 16 at 7:30 p.m.
