TEXARKANA, TEXAS (Jan. 16, 2020) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's basketball team lost to Texas A&M University-Texarkana (TAMUT) 86-67. The Saints drop to 4-13 overall and remain winless at 0-7 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The Eagles climb to 7-11 overall and 2-4 in conference.
Head Coach Chris Dial commented on the game, "We struggled in the first half and dug ourselves a hole that was too large to overcome in the second half. Credit to Texarkana, their guys played harder and with more passion than we did. We didn't execute on top of our lack of effort and the score showed it."
This is the first meeting between the two programs since TAMUT joined the RRAC this season.
The Saints jumped out to an early 6-0 lead after Michael Saladin (SR/Beaumont, Texas) hit a pair of three-pointers. OLLU maintained a lead up until around five minutes in when the Eagles tied the game at 12. Following the tie, the Eagles went on a tear and led 40-22 at halftime. 22 points is the second lowest in a half for the Saints this season.
OLLU played much better in the second half aided by 21 total points from Saladin and 16 from Estefan Trevino (SO/San Antonio, Texas). Despite scoring 45 points, the deficit was too large to overcome from the first half. The Eagles won 86-67 and shot 48.4 percent from the field. Ruben Monzon (SO/San Diego, Calif.) was held to a season-low three points. The Saints have lost four straight games and are searching for their first conference victory.
