
NORMAN, OKLA. (Jan. 23, 2020) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's track and field team participated in their first event of the 2020 season at the UCO Invitational. The event took place at the Mosier Indoor Facility on Jan. 18.
Head Coach Stephen Sherman said, "This meet was definitely one of our more complete efforts ever, and it certainly was the most complete opening effort we have ever had. To say the least, I was very proud of the athletes for how they competed. The key will now be to not take too much from this meet one way or the other. We will need to continue to progress and compete especially as our competition gets tougher."
Pablo Cavazos (SR/Pharr, Texas) ran the 60m and placed 36th with a time of 7.60.
Johnny Samudio (FR/San Antonio, Texas) participated in the 200m and finished 14th with a time of 23.83. Cavazos finished 19th with a time of 24.15 and Clayton Townsend (SR/Schertz, Texas) clocked in at 24.65 for 25th place.
Samudio also competed in the 400m and finished fourth with a time of 52.27.
Patrick Duncan (SO/El Paso, Texas) competed in the 800m run with a time of 2:12.07 for ninth place.
Freshman Nathaniel Rodriguez (FR/San Antonio, Texas) ran the 5000m in 16:37.86 for second place. Isaac Martinez (FR/Weslaco, Texas) took sixth place with a time of 16:54.16 and Hector Puente (FR/McAllen, Texas) followed in seventh place at a time of 16:56.89.
Townsend took part in the 60m hurdles and placed sixth with a time of 8.90.
The Saints will compete in the FasTrack Collegiate Invitational in Houston starting on Jan 24.
