AUSTIN, TEXAS (Jan. 25, 2020) - The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's basketball took down Huston-Tillotson University (HTU) 108-82 to extend its winning streak to four games. No. 16-ranked OLLU improves to 16-5 overall and 8-1 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). Huston-Tillotson falls to 8-7 overall and 5-4 in conference.
Head Coach Stacy Stephens commented on the win, "Today we played up-tempo and attacked from the beginning. I credit the whole team with starting out aggressive and with high energy. I'm proud of the team and their effort tonight. Huston-Tillotson is a talented team and Head Coach Kendall DuCree does a great job of representing HTU."
The Saints are 25-1 against HTU, with their only loss coming in 2014.
The Saints offense clicked early and often in the first quarter by scoring 35 points. Keviona Barber (JR/Chicago, Ill.) had 11 points and the Saints limited the Rams to 15 points. In the second quarter Dezeree White (SO/Houston, Texas) scored eight points and the Saints increased their lead to 23 points at the half.
The Rams played better in the third and fourth quarter by scoring 24 points in each frame. The Saints continued their aggressive offense and won 108-82. OLLU shot 47.5 percent from the field and created 25 turnovers. Barber finished with a season-high 20 points. The Saints scored 32 points as a result of turnovers.
Barber led the Saints in scoring with 20 points. White tallied 16 points and Kasey Saldana (SR/San Antonio, Texas) added 14. Emiko Hemphill (JR/San Antonio, Texas) and Alexis White (SO/Houston, Texas) led the team with eight rebounds each. Four different players led the Saints with three assists each.
Huston-Tillotson was led by with Daijah Henry with 20 points. Traeli Calhoun led the Rams with 13 rebounds and added 17 points for a double-double. Calhoun led the Rams with four assists.
Inside the box
OLLU combined for 38-of-80 shooting for 47.5 percent, 3-of-17 from three-point range for 17.6 percent and 29-of-34 from the free-throw line for 85.3 percent. HTU shot 22-of-66 for 33.3 percent, 4-of-20 three pointers for 20 percent and 34-of-46 from the free-throw line for 73.9 percent.
The Saints grabbed 49 rebounds while the Rams collected 44. OLLU forced 25 turnovers and committed 17.
The Saints return home to face Paul Quinn College at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 30.
