HAWKINS, TEXAS (Feb. 9, 2020) - The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's basketball defeated Jarvis Christian College (JCC) 119-76 yesterday. No. 16-ranked OLLU improves to 20-5 overall and 12-1 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). Jarvis falls to 3-17 overall and 3-10 in conference. The Saints are in first place in the RRAC and have won eight straight games.
Head Coach Stacy Stephens commented on the win, "I really liked how the starters began the game and everyone on the bench was ready when their number was called. Jarvis competed the entire 40 minutes and played hard. Our defense was very active by getting tips and deflections."
The Saints are 20-2 against Jarvis, with the previous loss coming in 2010.
Dezeree White (SO/Houston, Texas) led the Saints in scoring with 28 points, marking her season-high in a game this season. Kasey Saldana (SR/San Antonio, Texas) tallied 21 points and Angeline Sanchez (FR/Cibolo, Texas) added 15. Sanchez's 15 points are a season-high for her in a game this season. White led the team with six rebounds. Zerina Shatri (JR/Prishtine, Kosovo) led the Saints with four assists.
Jarvis was led by Daeja Monroe and Brianna Page, with 26 points each. Tierra Sanders led the Bulldogs with 14 rebounds. Monroe led the Bulldogs with five assists.
Inside the box
OLLU combined for 42-of-71 shooting for 59.2 percent, 13-of-22 from three-point range for 59.1 percent and 22-of-26 from the free-throw line for 84.6 percent. Jarvis shot 26-of-42 for 61.9 percent, 11-of-18 three pointers for 61.1 percent and 13-of-16 from the free-throw line for 81.3 percent.
The Saints grabbed 29 rebounds while the Bulldogs collected 41. OLLU forced 36 turnovers and committed 10.
The Saints head to Shreveport, La. to face LSU-Shreveport on Feb. 13 at 5:30 p.m.
