SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 21, 2020) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's basketball team defeated Texas A&M University-Texarkana (TAMUT) 89-79 yesterday to break the four-game losing streak. The Saints improve to 9-17 overall and 5-11 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). Texarkana drops to 10-17 overall and 5-10 in conference.
Head Coach Chris Dial said, "I am proud of the team. They showed a lot of resilience and never quit. Edvin Tedesjo (JR/Stockholm, Sweden) stepped up big for us tonight. The team honored Roy Terracina by showing the same no quit attitude that he possesses."
The two programs have only met once, with the Eagles winning earlier this season 86-67.
The first half was evenly played despite both teams tallying double digit turnovers. The Saints shot 46.9 percent from the field and led 44-39 at halftime. Three different Saints players had double digit points at halftime and Victor Roper (FR/San Antonio, Texas) grabbed seven rebounds.
In the second half the Saints lead was cut to two points at the nine-minute mark, but OLLU never trailed after halftime. OLLU made clutch free throws down the stretch to fend off Texarkana's comeback attempt. The Saints won by 10 points and shot 46.7 percent from the field.
Michael Saladin (SR/Beaumont, Texas) led the team with 20 points, followed by Tedesjo with 19 and Darin Minniefield (JR/Houston, Texas) and Roper with 14 each. Roper grabbed a team leading 12 rebounds to earn a double-double. Saladin and Minniefield had a team high five assists each.
Texarkana was led by Desmond Kennedy with 25 points. Connor Ouellette led the team with 10 rebounds and added 10 points for a double-double. Kaland Johnson contributed a team high five assists.
