SPECIAL FEATURE ON SENIORS (March 18, 2020) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) baseball team was second in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) with a 5-1 conference record before its season ended abruptly. The Saints averaged seven runs per game when playing against RRAC opponents.
Four-year senior Xavier Solis finished the season having played 89 games, with 166 at-bats, 31 runs, 35 hits, five doubles, two home runs, 20 RBIs, 46 total bases, 15 walks and six stolen bases. He had a career-best .278 batting average and .381 on-base percentage.
Solis summed up his career at OLLU saying, "I would tell the younger players to live in the moment. Play every second of the game with respect and like it's your last. I enjoyed every minute of my senior year and I enjoyed growing with this team and my coaches. I have love for each member of the team. I'll never forget my time here with my brothers."
The Victoria, Texas, native played baseball at Victoria West High School. He is one of the few players on the Saints to play both in the outfield and infield.
He mentions former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor as his athletic role model. Keep up with Solis on social media here:
