SPECIAL FEATURE ON SENIORS (April 25, 2020) – Our Lady of the Lake University's (OLLU) Clayton Townsend (SR/Schertz, Texas) has had a successful four years as part of the track and field team.

During his freshman season, Townsend led the Saints to a second-place Red River Athletic Conference Meet, and the following year, the men placed third. Last year, the Saints finished in second place.

Townsend earned All-Conference in 2017 in the 4x100m Relay. In 2018, he received All-Conference honors in the 110m Hurdles, the 4x100m Relay, the 4x400m Relay and the Discus. Last season Townsend received All-Conference in the 110m Hurdles. He also earned Track Athlete of the Week last year. All of his previous three years, Townsend has been honored as a Conference Scholar-Athlete, and in 2019, he received the NAIA Scholar-Athlete award.

Townsend received his team's Top Saint Award three years in a row, in 2018, 2019 and this year. He holds the all-time outdoor record for the Saints in the 110m Hurdles at 15.58, and he has the second all-time record at 15.66 and the fourth all-time record at 15.84. He is third (29.82), fourth (27.77) and fifth (27.42) all-time in the Discus. He, along with Chandler Sennette (SO/College Station, Texas), Thomas Bailey and Jose Lima (SR/Cibolo, Texas), hold the second-best record for the 4x100m Relay at 45.18.

Townsend commented, "Our team worked hard all throughout the fall in order to compete and showcase our craft in the spring. It's discouraging, to say the least, but I know how good our team was and it does nothing but excite me for the future of this team. I think it's easy to dwell on what could've been but looking forward, I see nothing but future conference champions and national qualifiers. This team is in good hands."

Townsend's hobbies include reading books, playing video games, listening to music and working out. His athletic role model is New York Mets outfielder and former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow.
