SAN ANTONIO (Dec. 20, 2020) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's basketball team fell to NCAA D1 University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) 102-70 to drop to 1-3 this season. The Roadrunners climb to 3-3.
History
This is the first regular-season matchup between the Saints and Roadrunners. OLLU played UTSA in an exhibition game last season.
Basics
The Roadrunners started strong by rebounding well and led 8-2. Jordan Embry (SR/Paris, Texas) scored four quick points to put the Saints within two. UTSA responded and later scored 11 unanswered points. The Roadrunners increased their lead to 17 points halfway through the first frame and eventually led 54-30 at the break. Embry tallied 12 points and Ethan White (SR/San Antonio, Texas) added eight during the first half. Ruben Monzon (JR/San Diego, Calif.) grabbed eight rebounds and the Saints forced seven turnovers.
The Saints improved their play in the second half by scoring 40 points. Monzon finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Embry and White also totaled 14 points and the Saints cashed in on 28 fast-break points. OLLU struggled from the field by shooting 32.8 percent and only 21.7 percent from the three-point line. The Roadrunners won 102-70, cementing their largest margin of victory this season.
Offensive/defensive standouts
Monzon, Embry and White led the Saints in scoring with 14 points apiece. Monzon tallied 10 rebounds to earn a double-double. Four different Saints players led the team with two assists each.
Jhivvan Jackson led the Roadrunners with 27 points. Jacob Germany grabbed 12 rebounds to post a double-double on top of his 17 points. Keaton Wallace led UTSA with seven assists.
Inside the box
OLLU combined for 22-of-67 shooting for 32.8 percent, 5-of-23 from three-point range for 21.7 percent and 21-of-29 from the free-throw line for 72.4 percent.
The Saints grabbed 38 rebounds while the Roadrunners collected 65. OLLU forced 16 turnovers and committed 19.
