SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 21, 2011)-Jasmine Fuller's fifth double-double of the season helped the Our Lady of the Lake University women's basketball team improve its conference record to 13-6 after defeating the Paul Quinn College Lady Tigers Saturday night 97-56. The win places the Lady Saints four-and-a-half games behind Red River Athletic Conference-leader Langston University.
Hicks opened the second half for the Saints by scoring the first two points, followed by 3-pointers by Stacey Darnley and Roberts. Before the Lady Tigers could get a shot in, the Saints had already nailed eight points. They kept the fire for the rest of the half and continued to widen the gap between them and the Lady Tigers, ending the game with a shot by Fuller, which cemented the score at 97-56.
Fuller led the Saints' offense, recording her fifth double-double of the season with 30 points and 12 rebounds. Darnley added 19 points. Krystal Manning and Keke McDade contributed 11 and 10 points.
Tigers' players Jasmine Laws and Dominique Mitchel accounted for over half of their team's points, scoring 18 and 15 points respectively. Hicks, Manning, McDade, and Beth Hampton all pulled down six rebounds each.
The Saints shot 37% from the field, and shot 54% from the free throw line. The Tigers shot 34% from the field, and 59% of their free throws.
The Saints' final home game, and senior night, will be tonight against Southwestern Assemblies of God University at 5:30 p.m. Results from the last conference games will determine seedings for the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament that takes place March 4-6 in Waxahachie.
Senior night will honor senior players Beth Hampton, Krystal Manning, Keke McDade and Vernessa Roberts. Before the game, a tailgate party will be hosted for Saints fans featuring free food and Saints giveaways from 5-7:30 p.m. in the UWAC Great Room.
