The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) cross-country team competed at the 2009 TLU Invitational Oct. 3 in Seguin, Texas. The race marked the longest distance the Saints have competed in this year.
Once again, freshman Miriam Vazquez led the Saints with an overall time of 25:50.5. The time gave her a pace of 6:56 for the 6-kilometer course. Vazquez's time also placed her 12th out of 41 runners in the meet.
Sophomore Brandis Hurt finished with a time of 27:55.4 and a pace of 7:29. Freshman Jessica McGlothlin finished at 29:53.5 with a pace of 8:01. Sophomore Katherine Brunner finished at 31:39.0 with a pace of 8:29.
Although conditions were terrible to start and only got worse as the race went on, the Saints managed to take some experience from the meet.
"Rarely is a cross-country race ideal," said cross-country head coach Stephen Sherman. "That said, I am proud of our team for making the best out of a less than ideal situation."
The Saints will next compete in the University of the Incarnate Word invitational at 8:45 a.m. on Oct. 10 at Live Oak City Park in the northeast side of San Antonio.
