Darnley's 26 points help OLLU women's basketball sink LSU-Shreveport 73-65

SHREVEPORT, LA. (Feb. 28, 2011) - Stacey Darnley's 26 points enabled the Our Lady of the Lake University women's basketball team to defeat Louisiana State University-Shreveport 73-65 on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Saints secured their sweep of the Lady Pilots this season and improved their record to 15-6 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC).
OLLU has secured a third-place finish in the RRAC. The Saints were previously in a race with Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) for the third slot, but SAGU's 36-76 loss to Langston University gave the Saints the advantage.
Already cinching first is last-year's league champion, Langston (19-2), and second place is held by Texas Wesleyan University (17-4).
Three-pointers by Darnley and Krystal Manning gave the Saints the 6-4 lead, but the Lady Pilots shot back going on a seven-point run to pull ahead 11-6. Darnley shot her second of four 3-pointers in the first half to come within two at 11-9 with less than 14 minutes remaining. A minute later, Darnley's fourth 3-pointer gave the Saints the 14-13 lead. The Saints continued to pull farther ahead leading by as much as five. The teams headed into the locker room with a 29-27 Saints' lead.
OLLU began the second half with Darnley's fifth 3-pointer on an assist from Manning. The Saints' lead increased to 18 before the Lady Pilots threatened a comeback. With less than a minute remaining in the game, a 3-pointer from LSU's Kylie Leonards cut the Saints' lead to six, but the Saints recovered quickly to win the game 73-65.
Darnley, who averaged a little more than 10 points through the first 17 games of the season, has jumped to an average of 22 points during the last 10 games. She has now surpassed Manning as the Saints' leading scorer with an average of 14.96. Manning finished with 19 points for the Saints, and Kenisha McDade (at right) contributed 14. Jasmine Fuller was the lead rebounder with 11.
The Saints shot 37% from the field, including 33% from 3-point range, and 61% from the free-throw line.
LSU-Shreveport shot 29% from the field and from 3-point range, and 83% from the free-throw line. Jenna Diakos had a double-double for the Lady Pilots finishing with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
The Saints' final game of the regular season is in Marshall, Texas, tonight against Wiley. OLLU lost to Wiley in their first meeting on Jan. 24, 73-69.
