SAN ANTONIO (March 16, 2011) -- The Our Lady of the Lake University softball team completed its sweep of the Lady Lions from Langston University on Wednesday afternoon by a score of 9-6. The Saints improve to 6-3 in the Red River Athletic Conference and 12-11 overall, while Langston drops to 3-2.

The Lady Lions threatened early as they took a 2-0 lead at the top of the first when a double from Whitley Davis drove in Whitnii Jackson and Jasmine Wilson. The Saints answered with one run after an error by Kaiya Fletcher gave Meagan Potts the go-ahead to score to close out the inning.

Brooke Hernandez made it to first base after she was hit by pitcher Jacklyn Wright to open the bottom of the second inning. Michelle Salinas (pinch-running for Hernandez) ran to second when Ashley Elizalde was called out on a fielder's choice at first. A bop to second from Kimberlee Briseno advanced Salinas to third and a line drive to right from Tiffany Stritz drove both Briseno and Salinas in to score. Kaitlyn Bourg singled to left, and for the second time in the game, Godina reached base on a hit from Wright. Alissa Huerta's hit to left field drove in Stritz, and the bases remained loaded. Shelby Worrell walked, and Bourg advanced to home plate to score. Hernandez reached first on another hit from the pitcher, and Godina scored. The inning ended with the Saints leading 6-2.

The third inning remained scoreless on both sides. Ater a Lions' ground-out and strike-out, Priscilla Arzaga and Kaylee Hendon reached the bases on walks. A hit to right field drove in Arzaga, and the inning ended with the Saints still ahead 6-3.

Two fourth-inning errors by the Lady Lions gave the Saints the opportunity to score three runs. Crossing home plate were Godina, Huerta and Gonzalez on hits from Hernandez, Elizalde and Stritz. The Saints went up 9-3 to end the inning.

Gonzalez replaced Stritz at the mound at the top of the fifth inning. Her first batter, Jasmine Wilson, connected and hit a homer out to centerfield. A long shot to center from Arzaga drove in Sharla Revis, and the inning ended with the Saints ahead 9-5.

The Lions would score one more run at the top of the sixth after a Saints' error. Neither team scored any additional runs, and the game ended with the Saints winning 9-6.

Stritz was credited with the win as she allowed six hits and three runs, while getting three strikeouts and two walks. She is now 7-5 for the season. Gonzalez recorded her first save on three innings pitched. She allowed five hits and three runs and got one strikeout.

Hernandez (at right) continues to lead the NAIA and conference in fielding. She is 79 for 88 and has no errors for the season (1.000).

The Saints will take a week-long break and return to play a double-header at home against Central Baptist College on March 24. After that, the Saints will play 11 games on the road.
