SILVIS, ILL. (May 26, 2011) -- The rain took a short break on Wednesday morning clearing the way for the first round of the 2011 NAIA Men's Golf National Championships to conclude.
A shotgun start at 2 p.m. kicked off the second round, but after a three-hour lull, the rain and thunderstorms returned, causing day two to be suspended. The round was scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. this morning with every player having 9-10 holes remaining.
Plans are for the second round to wrap up at noon, and after a brief period to change pin placements, the third round will begin at 1 p.m. After the third round is complete, the tournament will be cut to the top 17 teams and 40 individuals, including ties. The fourth round will be played on Friday.
The Saints were four-over par through five-to-seven holes. They are in 16th place out of 29 teams, while Jack Shores is tied for 12th out of 156 individuals competing.
Oklahoma Christian University remains at the top of the team leaderboard with a four-over par. Lewis Clark State University and British Columbia University are eight shots behind Oklahoma Christian for a tie for second place.
The rain is scheduled to continue on Thursday, but forecasters are hoping for a brief respite in the afternoon. On Friday, the chance for inclement weather dwindles to 10 percent. The tournament is scheduled for 72 holes, but play must be completed by dark on Friday. Each round becomes official once it has been completed.
