LAREDO, TEXAS (Sept. 14, 2011) -- The Our Lady of the Lake University volleyball team is off to its worst start in five years after losing in three sets to Texas A&M International University in Laredo last evening. But the Saints fought hard against the Dustdevils losing two sets by just three points. The loss puts the Saints at 1-11 for the season, while the Dustdevils, an NCAA Division II team, improves to 3-7.

 

The Saints lost the first two sets 25-22, and the last set 25-15.

 

Desirea Aguilar led the Saints in assists with 14,while Elyse Escobar finished with eight. Margaret Nurse recorded nine kills, Amanda Bonds had five, and Liza Rodriguez and Tasha Yancey each contributed four kills. Bryttany Willoughby finished with nine digs, both Bonds and Rodriguez had six, and Aguilar ended with four. Jennifer Herrera, Jordan Latham, Bonds and Aguilar each had one ace.

 

The Saints are on the road on Friday and Saturday for the Scorpion Soccer Classic hosted by the University of Texas at Brownsville. The team will play Oklahoma Baptist University on Friday at 5 p.m. and UT-Brownsville at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
