FORT WORTH, TEXAS (Nov. 5, 2011) – David Duque of the Our Lady of the Lake University men's cross-country team has qualified for the NAIA National Tournament after finishing in 10th place at the Red River Athletic Conference Championship Tournament. The meet, hosted by Texas Wesleyan University, took place on Friday at Gateway Park in Fort Worth, Texas.
Head coach Stephen Sherman said, "David ran a phenomenal race claiming the last individual qualifier spot and the last spot on the all-conference team. It was a phenomenal race for anyone, let alone a freshman."
Duque, who ran a time of 27:43 -- a personal best time and a school record for the 8K.|
"Jon (Cepeda) also had a great day, running a personal best of 29:25. He missed the last qualifier spot by a few places," said Sherman. Chris Robins had a good race, as well, but was misdirected on the last turn of the course, and the error led him to not being represented on the results. "Nonetheless, I am very pleased with how the men finished."
Texas Wesleyan took its first conference championship. Northwood University finished second with 56 points, while Bacone College ended with 68. University of the Southwest (123), Langston University (124), Huston-Tillotson University (131) and Wiley College (136) followed.
