BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (Nov. 10, 2011) -- During the Red River Athletic Conference Championship Tournament banquet this evening, All-Conference selectees were named. From Our Lady of the Lake University, sophomore Margaret Nurse was selected to the first team. Seniors Liza Rodriguez and Tasha Yancey received second-team honors, and Desirea Aguilar and Elyse Escobar were named to the honorable mention team.

 

In addition, Jennifer Herrera and Suzie Pena were selected to the Champions of Character team.

 

Nurse led the Lady Saints in kills with a total of 177 (1.8 k/g) in her first year with the team. She transferred to OLLU from Palo Alto College in San Antonio. She is a native of Seoul, South Korea.

 

Rodriguez (at right) led the Saints in hitting percentage (.174) and is the team captain. She is a native of El Paso, Texas, and has played on the Saints team for four years. She plans to graduate in December with a degree in mathematics.

 

Yancey (at left) is also a senior and joined the team in 2010 after playing on the women's basketball team in 2009. She was born in San Antonio and attended Marshall High School. She transferred to OLLU from Texas A&M International University in Laredo. Yancey is the team's leader in blocks with 86.

 

Escobar (at right) is a senior and attended Warren High School in San Antonio. She has also played on the Saints team for four years. She led the team this year in assists with 387. She will graduate in May with a degree in communication and learning disorders.

 

Aguilar (at left) is a junior from Von Ormy, Texas. She attended Southwest High School in San Antonio. She finished the season with a total of 318 assists. Aguilar is a social work major.

           

Herrera (at right) is a senior majoring in communication and learning disorders. She joined the team in 2008. Penan (at left), a sophomore from San Antonio, attended Southwest High School.
