The Saints men's soccer team secured third place in the Red River Athletic Conference after beating Northwood University at home on Oct. 29. OLLU finished conference play with a record of 6-2. Second place Huston-Tillotston is at 5-1 and in first place is the University of Texas at Brownsville who went undefeated in the conference.
Freshman Octavio Herrera scored the game's first goal for the Saints during the 35th minute. The next goal didn't come through until the second half by sophomore forward Ramon Rodriguez during the 69th minute. The game remained at 2-0 until 18 minutes before the end of retulation play when Northwood's Gabriel Elizondo scored.
Sophomore goal keeper Marco Herrera finished with five saves, while Northwood's David Etale and Chris Sotelo combined for six saves. Shots were even matched between both teams -- OLLU had 13 and Northwood had 14.
The Saints will play the University of Dallas at home on Oct. 31, and close out their season on Nov. 1 in a match against the University of St. Thomas in Houston.
