LANGSTON, OKLA. (Jan. 15, 2012) -- Fifty-one percent field goal shooting helped the Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU men's basketball team to a 113-90 win over Langston University Saturday evening in Oklahoma.

 

The 11th consecutive win for the Saints improves their record to 10-0 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) and 13-3 overall, while Langston drops to 4-6 in conference and 4-11 overall.

 

The team is 2 ½ games ahead of second-place Texas Wesleyan University (7-2/12-3) and the University of St. Thomas (7-2/9-6).  Southwestern Assemblies of God University (6-3/12-3), Wiley College (6-3/10-4) and LSU-Shreveport (6-3/8-6) are tied for third place and are 3 ½ games behind.

 

Junior point guard Josh Orta was the Saints top scorer with 23 points. He also added two assists and two steals. Junior guard Eddie Ortiz, in the starting lineup for the Saints, scored 20 points, including 7-of-11 from the field and 6-of-10 from 3-point range. He added three assists. Others scoring in double digits were senior forward Marco Cooper and junior forward Mike Brown, each finishing with 16 points. Junior guard Lo'Ron Smith contributed 12 points for the Saints.

 

Langston's Emil Clayton scored 22 points for his team. Landon Gray finished with 17 points, while Paul Campbell added 13 and Charles Tucker, 12.

 

The Saints shot 51 percent from the field, 36 percent from 3-point range and 63 percent from the free-throw line. The Lions shot 46 percent from the field, 40 percent from 3-point range and 61 percent from the free-throw line.

 

The Saints forced 33 turnovers and gave up 25.

 

OLLU will continue their road trip on Monday when the Saints face Bacone College (1-9/2-13) in Muskogee, Okla. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The Saints will return home and host the University of the Southwest (5-5/8-6) on Saturday, Jan. 21, at 4 .m.
