
MUSKOGEE, OKLA. (Jan. 16, 2012) -- The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's basketball team forced 25 turnovers and five players scored in double digits as the Saints beat Bacone College 95-74 in Muskogee, Okla.
The win improves the Saints record to 9-2 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) and 14-3 overall, while Bacone drops to 3-8 in conference and 6-9 overall. The Saints are two games behind league-leader Langston University (11-0/17-0). In second place is LSU-Shreveport (9-1/11-5).
The Lady Warriors began the game with an 8-0 run before freshman Nashae Owens put the Saints' first points on the board. With a little less than 13 minutes remaining in the half, the Saints shot back to take a one point lead at 20-19. The score fluctuated by one point through the next six minutes until the Saints grabbed a four-point lead. Junior Chelsea Kellogg's 11 points and Nikkia Davis' four assists helped the Saints to a seven-point lead as the half ended at 50-43.
The Saints took a game-high 15-point lead with 11 minutes left in the game, and with two minutes remaining, the team led by 19 points. The Saints finished the game with a 21-point lead at 95-74.
Jasmine Fuller and Kellogg were the Saints' high scorers with 15 points each. Jennifer Davison scored 14 points, while Owens finished with 12 points and eight rebounds and Alisha Crump added 10 points.
The Lady Warriors' Danielle Jackson finished with 22 points, and Noelani Gi added 17.
The Saints shot 42 percent from the field, 31 percent from 3-point range and 64 percent free-throws. In addition, OLLU forced 25 turnovers, while committing 12. The Lady Warriors shot 43 percent from the field, 39 percent from 3-point range and 62 percent free throws.
Head Coach Rusty Kennedy said, "I am proud of the way the ladies responded after a tough loss on this trip [vs. Lansgston]. Our defensive energy was key for us in the second half. I thought it was a total team effort, but Kellogg, Davison and Fuller did some nice things. And Davis was a major spark for us tonight."
The Saints will return home to host the University of the Southwest on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. Southwest is in last place in the conference with a 1-9 record and a 6-10 overall record. The Saints have won three of four previous matchups against Southwest.
