TYLER, TEXAS (Feb. 13, 2012) -- The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's basketball team recorded its fifth consecutive win when it beat Texas College 89-55 in Tyler Monday evening.
The win improves the Saints record to 16-4 in the Red River Athletic Conference and 21-5 overall, while Texas College drops to 8-11 in conference and 8-16 overall. The Saints are two games behind league-leader Langston University (18-2/24-2) and one and a half games behind second-place LSU-Shreveport (17-2/19-6).
The Saints made 34-of -85 from the field (40 percent), 6-of-28 3-pointers (21 percent) and 15-of-23 from the free-throw line (65 percent). Texas College shot 31 percent from the field and made 1-of-11 from 3-point range and 70 percent from the free-throw line. The team committed 39 turnovers, while forcing 20 on the Saints.
Stacey Darnley was the Saints' high scorer with 17 points. She added three assists and two steals. Jasmine Fuller finished with 14 points, and Nashae Owens added 10 points and five assists. Nikkia Davis contributed six assists for the Saints.
Only one player on the Texas College squad scored in double-digits. Shirley McGowen finished with 22 points. Shauniece Lewis added 10 rebounds.
OLLU will return home to host Bacone College on Thursday. In the teams' previous matchup, the Saints won 95-74. Bacone is currently 6-14 in the conference and 10-15 overall. The team is 12 games behind first place.
