The Our Lady of the Lake University Saints women's soccer team has advanced to the Red River Athletic Conference Championship game after beating No. 1 ranked Northwood University 2-1.
The Saints, ranked No. 4 going into the tournament, will face No. 2 ranked University of Texas at Brownsville today at 7 p.m.
Starting for the Saints were Christi Oswalt, Samantha Miller, Nikole Gase, Tabytha Horseman, Amanda Bonds, Danielle Campos, Hannah Collazo, Hailey Olden, Rebekah Valenta, Abby Dulaney and Lauren Schultz. Substituting were Christine Walker, Jacqueline Ibarra, Melissa O'Brien and Amanda Lozano.
Northwood outshot the Saints in the first half 6-7 and 4-6 in the second half. Leading the Saints in shots was Bonds with three, while Gase, Collazo and Dulaney each had two. OLLU goal keeper Oswalt recorded four saves, while NU's goal keeper recorded none.
Freshman Gase scored the first goal of the game giving the Saints the lead in the first minute. Freshman Dulaney followed 22 minutes later with a goal that rebounded from her own shot. The score stayed at 2-0 until the 71st minute of the game when NU's Andrea Rodriguez shot one in on an assist by Helena Melin.
