CEDAR HILL, TEXAS (April 27-28, 2012) -- The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) softball team won one of two games against Northwood University this past weekend.
In the teams' first game on Friday, the Saints lost 3-6. The Saints came back to win the first of the doubleheader on Saturday 2-1, but dropped the last game 4-5.
The team finished the regular season in second place behind Texas Wesleyan University (20-4/22-17) with an 18-6 Red River Athletic Conference record and 26-16 overall.
The Saints were held to two hits in Friday's game. Meagan Potts went 1 for 3, while Amanda Hinojosa went 1 for 2. Ashley Perez, Hinojosa and Kailyn Marie Miller scored three runs for the Saints. Pitcher Maegan Ramirez allowed eight hits and six runs, while striking out four and walking two. Relief pitcher Ruby Ximenez allowed two hits and struck out one in two innings pitched.
Kaitlyn Bourg led the offense for the Saints in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. She went 2 for 4. Brittany Stone, Ashley Elizalde and Potts each had one hit. Julie Ramos and Potts each added one RBI. Ramirez pitched all seven innings allowing four hits and one run while walking five and striking out two.
Northwood took a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning of the last game of the series. The Saints scored a run in the third inning, and the Knights scored two more. The game remained at 5-1 through the top of the seventh, when the Saints scored three runs, but it was not enough for the win.
Kimberlee Briseno went 2 for 4, and Potts hit two doubles in three at bats to lead the offense. Stone scored two runs, and Briseno and Bourg scored the other two runs for the Saints.
Starting pitcher Ximenez allowed four hits and five runs in two innings pitched. Reliever Sera Quiroga pitched four innings, allowing three hits.
The Saints will be the No. 2 seed in the conference championship tournament that takes place Thursday, May 3, through Saturday, May 5 in Farmers Branch, Texas. OLLU is scheduled to play the winner of No. 3 Northwood (16-8/21-20) and No. 6 University of the Southwest (12-12/18-25) at 3 p.m. on Thursday.
No. 1 seed Texas Wesleyan University will take on the winner of the game between No. 4 Bacone College (14-10/19-24) and No. 5 Langston University (14-10/17-14) at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
