SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 1, 2012) -- Despite a few rained out games that required some schedule juggling, the second-annual 8v8 soccer tournament sponsored by Our Lady of the Lake University concluded last week, and according to officials, it was a huge success.

The winner of this year's tournament was the Netherlands, a team made up of girls from Brackenridge and Edison High Schools. The Netherlands won 10 matches, lost one and tallied 30 total points. Some of the players from the winning team were champions from last year's 8v8 league. One member will be joining the Saints squad this upcoming season -- Heather Cisneros, a defender from Edison High School.

Other schools participating this year were: Pleasanton, Harlandale, John Jay, Memorial, Antonian, Warren, South San, Highlands, East Central, Southwest, Jefferson and Lanier Schools. The girls were grouped into 12 teams representing Brazil, USA. Germany, Norway, Sweden, Mexico, France, England, Australia, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands. Participants were either freshmen, sophomores, juniors or seniors -- all younger than 18 years old.

Former and current members of the OLLU Saints soccer team provided the coaching. They included Gary Hamilton, Hailey Olden, Bianca Ramirez, Victoria Vazquez and Amanda Lozano.

At the conclusion of the season, the standings of the top four teams were as follows:

1. The Netherlands (Brackenridge/Edison) -- 30 points
2. USA (Harlandale) 28 points
3. Sweden (Warren) -- 22 points
