Soccer coaches from the Red River Athletic Conference of the NAIA have selected the men's 2009 Red River Athletic Conference Team. Selected to the second team from Our Lady of the Lake University are Ricardo Guerra, Gary Hamilton, Esteban Rocha and Ramon Rodriguez.
Junior Ricardo Guerra played in all 16 games on the Saints schedule this year. His contributions as a defender played a significant role in the Saints securing a 6-2 conference and 11-7 overall record this year. Guerra, a native of Brownsville, Texas, and a graduate of Hanna High School, competed in his last year of eligibility in 2009. He is majoring in architecture. Last year, he was selected to the Association of Independent Institutions All-Conference Second Team.
Sophomore defender Gary Hamilton played in 14 games for the Saints this year and his versatility in being able to switch to offense and defense as needed earned him his selection. Hamilton hails from Middlesbrough, England, and is majoring in biology.
Midfielder Esteban Rocha played in 15 games for the Saints this year, and as captain of the team, he also played a significant role in the Saints successful season this year. Rocha, a junior, is majoring in Computer Information Systems and Security at OLLU. Last year, he was also selected to the Association of Independent Institutions All-Conference Second Team and was chosen by his teammates to receive the "Players Choice Award."
Sophomore Ramon Rodriguez scored seven goals in the season and one assist for a total of 15 points. He also led the team in shots on goal with a total of 26 in both conference and non-conference games. Ramon, a forward, is a native of McAllen, Texas, where he attended Rowe High School. He is majoring in physical therapy at OLLU.
