OLLU Bowling 25 Quick Facts
  1. Started by Emily Dzierski of Houston, Texas, and Ernest Silva of Harlingen, Texas.
  2. OLLU Bowling is a member of the collegiate list of bowling universities through USBC sharing name with the University of Texas at Austin, West Texas A&M University and the University of  Indiana.
  3. Is composed of two sections: Club Bowling -- all fun and games; Team Bowling -- competitive bowling in tournaments.
  4. Currently have 60 club members and growing and 20 team members.
  5. Competed in three tournaments this year in Lubbock, Denton and Houston.
  6. Have big events at Our Lady of the Lake University, such as "The Halo Classic" and "The Saints Bowl-A-Thon."
  7. Host a collegiate bowling tournament at Bandera Super Bowl in January 2011.
  8. Compete against NCAA Division I/II universities such as Texas A&M University, Texas Tech University and Louisiana State University.
  9. Have an official OLLU Bowling logo, clothing line and bowling balls.
  10. Are open to all students and have practices twice a week, currently Tuesdays and Sundays.
  11. Have many small businesses sponsoring such as "Silva, Otting, & Silva," BeautiControl, Platillo's and The Malt House.
  12. Is entirely student-run and overlooked by university professors/advisers.
  13. Gives all students who compete an opportunity to win scholarship money and build friendships other than only at OLLU.
  14. Travels to many different cities, sites and monuments.
  15. OLLU Men's Bowling Team has improved its starting averages by 25 pins as a group total within the first year of competition.
  16. OLLU Women's Bowling Team has improved its starting averages by 35 pins as a group total within the first year of competition.
  17. OLLU Bowling has significant victories against SHSU, Texas Tech, LSU and North Texas.
  18. There are officer positions run by students consisting of: Captain, Secretary, Treasurer and PR.
  19. Ernest Silva is captain and coach of all bowlers on the university team.
  20. All bowlers must maintain a 2.5 GPA, raise money and find donations and attend all tournaments.
  21. OLLU Bowling is ranked in the top 150 bowling teams in the collegiate nation.
  22. Bowling is now the most emerging sport in college divisions NCAA, JNCO and NAIA.
  23. Bowling is a lifelong sport that is available to anyone of any size or shape.
  24. OLLU Bowling keeps the fundamental values of "Champions of Character" and the CDP at OLLU.
  25. OLLU Bowling is now official.
The NAIA Champions of Character program aims to instill five core values in NAIA athletes, coaches: respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership, and sportsmanship. Our Lady of the Lake University shares and supports these values and strives to promote the Champions of Character program by working with students, coaches through our Champions of Character educational program.
