Club Bowling Team

Our Lady of the Lake University Bowling

In the fall of 2009, Our Lady of the Lake University began a bowling club. The sport is designated as an emerging sport under the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

The club was created by OLLU students Ernest Silva and Emily Dzierski, who are both captains of the team. Other officers include Elizabeth Holguin, secretary and Jesse Riojas, treasurer. Advisers are staff members Josie Valdez, Edna Hinojosa and Adrienne Rodriguez, as well as faculty member Steve Blanchard.

The Saints Bowling Club allows students to come together to share their pride in their school. The team provides an equal opportunity for all participants to grow not only in their athletic ability but in their social and spiritual lives as well.

Its mission is to allow everyone the chance of playing and/or competing against high-caliber universities while finding a sense of pride and accomplishment within themselves.

Practices are held at Bandera Super Bowl off Bandera Rd. in San Antonio. All members of the travel team are registered members of the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) and compete in USBC-sanctioned tournaments around the state of Texas.

In the 2009-2010 academic year, the travel team competed in three tournaments: the South West Intercollegiate Bowling Conference (SWIBC) 2, SWIBC 3 and the SWIBC Championship. Though the team did not receive any awards, members were highly received by the other teams and fans from all over.

In the 2010-2011 academic year, the team plans to attend all SWIBC tournaments (1, 2, 3 and Champs.) In addition, the Saints will be hosting the SWIBC 3 tournament on Jan. 16, 2011 at Bandera Super Bowl.

The Saints encourages the OLLU community to come out and support them in their endeavors.
