
Stephen Sherman has completed his fifth season as head coach for the track and field team. He enters his 11th season as head cross-country coach at OLLU after coming from McMurry University in Abilene, Texas, where he served as assistant coach for cross-country and track for three years.
In 2019, the men finished in second place in with 163 points. Earning All-Conference were Nathaniel Aguilar, 800m, 1500m, 300m; Jose Zarate, 800m, 1500m, 3000m; Miguel Segura, 1500m, 3000m; Andrew Moczygemba, 5000m, 10000m; Isaiah Ramirez, 5000m, 10000m; Sam Cardenas, 5000m, 10000m; Clayton Townsend, 110mH; Thomas Bailey, High Jump.
In 2018, the men finished in third place in outdoor. Earning All-Conference were: Nathaniel Aguilar, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 4x800mR; Derek Barnett, 1500m, 5000m, 10000m; Patrick Bousselot, 1500m, 5000m; Kyle Byerly, 100m, 200m, 4x100mR, Long Jump; Pablo Cavazos, 100m, 200m, 4x100mR, 4x400mR, Long Jump; Jose Lima, 400m, 800m, 4x400mR, 4x800mR; Andrew Moczygemba, 3000m, 5000m, 10000m; Rene Perez,400mH, 4x100mR, Discus; Miguel Segura, 800m, 4x800mR; Patrick Torres, 3000m, 5000m, 10000m; Clayton Townsend, 110mH, 4x100mR, 4x400mR, Discus; Justin Ybarra, 10000m; Jose Zarate, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 4x400mR, 4x800mR.
In 2017, the men finished in second place in outdoor, and Ricky Ramos qualified for the NAIA National Championship Meet, where he competed as a hurdler. Earning Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) All-Conference recognition were: Nathaniel Aguilar (1500m, 3k, 5k, 4x800mR), Derek Barnett (3k, 4x800mR), Adrian Carmona (4x100mR, 4x400mR), Anthony Gonzalez (3k, 4x800mR), Jose Lima (4x400mR, 4x800mR), Rene Perez (4x100mR, 4x400mR), Luis Ramirez (5k, 10k), Ricky Ramos (110mH, 400mH, 4x100mR), Tristen Robles (10k), Alex Sattley (High Jump, Long Jump), Patrick Torres (10k), Clayton Townsend (4x100mR) and Justin Ybarra (10k). RRAC Scholar-Athletes were: Barnett, Carmona and Torres. In 2016, the men's team finished third in the RRAC, which OLLU hosted. Saints finishing in the top three of their events were as follows: Patrick Bousselot, 800m, 2nd place, 2:05.16; Steven Tomlin, Triple Jump, 2nd place, 13.46m; Luis Ramirez, 5k, 2nd place, 16:20.17; Patrick Torres, 10k, 2nd place, 36:23.97; Alex Sattley, High Jump, 2nd place, 1.98m; Luis Ramirez, 3k, 3rd place, 9:10.23; Alex Sattley, Long Jump, 3rd place, 6.46m; Alex Sattley, Triple Jump, 3rd place, 13.41m. The 2015 season marked track and field's first full season as an intercollegiate athletic team at OLLU. In previous years, the Saints have limited their competition to long-distance events in track and field. In track and field's inaugural season, the men finished fifth in the RRAC. Individually, the Saints had one second-place, one third-place, one fifth-place and two six-place finishes in the conference meet. Throughout the season, three men were named conference runners of the week. Also, 12 OLLU school records were set this season. Sherman earned his USA Track and Field (USATF) Level I Certification in June 2005 and USATF Level II Certification in Endurance Events in July 2008. A native of Dickinson, Texas, Sherman received a Bachelor of Arts in history and political science from McMurry and a Master of Science in organizational and human resources development from Abilene Christian University. Sherman and wife Megan Pate are the parents of a boy and a girl.
