[OLLU] Northside ISD presents OLLU soccer teams with 2012 Partner-of-the-Year Award

SAN ANTONIO (May 16, 2012) -- The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's and women's soccer teams received recognition on May 15 for their work as mentors in the Northside Independent School District (NISD), the largest school district in San Antonio and the fourth largest in Texas. Northside held its 2012 Partner-of-the-Year Awards Reception at the Paul Taylor Field House, and Soccer Coach Shane Hurley accepted the award on behalf of his team members. He was congratulated by Dr. John M. Folks, NISD Superintendent.

"I think it is tremendous that out of more than 400 partners with NISD, OLLU's soccer program was one of 18 partners receiving recognition," said Hurley. "I am very proud of our fantastic young men and women."

SAN ANTONIO (May 17, 2012) -- The 2012 Capital One Academic All‐District ® Women's At‐Large Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation's top student‐athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One became the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All‐America teams programs in 2011.

Leslie Cooper is Our Lady of the Lake University's award winner, She has been selected to the First Team in District 7. Cooper, a member of the Saints women's tennis team, is a sophomore at OLLU.

Student-athletes are nominated by the school's sports information director based on their excellence in the classroom while maintaining at least a 3.3 GPA, as well as success on the playing field.

Santiago Padilla V is Our Lady of the Lake University's award winner. He has been selected to the First Team in District 7. Padilla, a member of the Saints men's tennis team, just completed his undergraduate degree from OLLU and walked across the stage on May 5.

STARKVILLE, MISS. (May 17, 2012) -- The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) has announced its 2012 NAIA All-Region teams. This season, 134 student-athletes representing 46 institutions were chosen for either a first or second team in each of the Association's five regions.

Our Lady of the Lake University's Kaitlyn Bourg, Maegan Ramirez and Brittany Stone were selected to the Second Team in the Southwest Region.

[Men's Golf] NAIA Men's Golf Championships pairings announced; OLLU Saints set to begin at 2 p.m. on May 22

KANSAS CITY, MO. (May 14, 2012) -The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has officially released the first and second round pairings for the 2012 NAIA Men's Golf National Championships. The 61st annual event will take place at Creekside Golf Club in Salem, Ore., May 22-25.

Two additional invitations were extended to individuals on Friday as Brett McCurdy Jr. of Northwood (Fla.) and Zach Lindsey of Reinhardt (Ga.) received at-large selections, bringing the total number of golfers to 159 at the event.

First-round action will tee off on May 22 at 7 a.m. PDT (9 a.m. CDT), with Oklahoma City, Johnson & Wales (Fla.) and Marian (Ind.) starting on No. 1, while Grand View (Iowa), Southern Nazarene (Okla.) and Madonna (Mich.) open play on No. 10 at 7:30 a.m. (9:30 a.m.) The afternoon session kicks off at 12 p.m. (2 p.m.) with Lee (Tenn.), Our Lady of the Lake Universityand Union (Tenn.) setting out at No. 1. Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.), Bethany (Kan.) and Brescia (Ky.) begin play on No. 10 at 12:30 p.m. (2:30 p.m.)

[Men's Golf] OLLU men's golf receives at-large bid to 2012 NAIA Men's Golf National Championship Tournament

KANSAS CITY, MO. (May 10, 2012) -- The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has officially released the qualifiers for the 2012 NAIA Men's Golf National Championships. The 61st annual event will take place at Creekside Golf Club in Salem, Ore., May 22-25. First and second round pairings for the event will be announced Friday by 3 p.m. CDT.

The Our Lady of the Lake University men's golf team received the final at-large (eighth) bid to the tournament. This year will mark the third consecutive time the Saints have qualified for the tournament. Last year, the Saints received the sixth at large bid. In 2010, junior golfer Aaron Flores received an automatic bid to nationals after winning the conference tournament.

The only other team from the Red River Athletic Conference qualifying for the tournament is Texas Wesleyan University. The Rams won the conference tournament held in April and hosted by OLLU.

[Men's Basketball] OLLU men's basketball recognizes team and individual accomplishments during spring banquet

SAN ANTONIO (May 3, 2012) -- The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's basketball team hosted its annual spring banquet on Thursday evening. The event each year is held to celebrate the team's accomplishments and to recognize those student-athletes who excelled throughout the season.

The Saints finished the season with a 27-8 overall record and a 21-3 record and the regular season crown in the Red River Athletic Conference. The team lost out to LSU-Shreveport in the conference tournament championship game; however, the Saints earned a berth in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Men's Basketball DI Championship Tournament in Kansas City, Mo. The Saints won the first round game against Baker University, but lost the Sweet 16 round game against Biola University in overtime.

FREDERICKSBURG, TEXAS (May 3, 2012) -- Members of the Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) Men's Bowling Team competed in the regional doubles match this past weekend. On April 28, the qualifying six games to get put into the main draw of the double-elimination tournament took place.

CEDAR HILL, TEXAS (April 27-28, 2012) -- The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) softball team won one of two games against Northwood University this past weekend.

In the teams' first game on Friday, the Saints lost 3-6. The Saints came back to win the first of the doubleheader on Saturday 2-1, but dropped the last game 4-5.

The team finished the regular season in second place behind Texas Wesleyan University (20-4/22-17) with an 18-6 Red River Athletic Conference record and 26-16 overall.

OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA. (April 26, 2012) -- The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's tennis team defeated Oklahoma Wesleyan University in the first round of the NAIA Regional Conference Championship Tournament. The Saints won all nine matches and will now advance to the semifinals of the tournament.

Head Coach Sal Castillo said, "Solid play by everyone. We weren't expecting a 9-0 score, but when you are playing for a spot to go to nationals, this score is going to impress a lot of the selection committee members."

[Women's Tennis] OLLU women's tennis leaves for NAIA regional tournament after prayer send-off

SAN ANTONIO (April 24, 2012) -- The Our Lady of the Lake University women's tennis team departed this afternoon for Oklahoma City where they will compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Regional Conference Tournament that begins on April 26.

The tournament will determine which teams will qualify for the NAIA National Tennis Championship Tournament that takes place in mid-May. A total of seven women's teams will be competing.
