SAN ANTONIO (June 2, 2010) - Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) announced today that John Sobieski has signed a letter of intent to run cross-country for the University. Sobieski attended Mount Carmel Academy in Houston, where he lettered all four years in cross-country and track. In addition, he was the team's MVP all four years.

Current students at Our Lady of the Lake University who are interested in joining the cross-country teams as a walk-on are encouraged to contact Head Coach Stephen Sherman. The women's team had much success this year with freshman Miriam Vazquez participating in the NAIA National Championship Meet last fall.

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released the qualifiers for the 30th Annual Women's NAIA Cross Country National Championships. Thirty-two teams, including 25 conference/independent/unaffiliated champions, six at-large bids and 117 individual qualifiers, will run in the women's 5K. Representing the Red River Athletic Conference and OLLU will be freshman Miriam Vazquez.

The Saints cross-country team competed on Nov. 6 in the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament at Northwood University in Cedar Hill, Texas.  Freshman Miriam Vazquez finished in seventh place and has qualified to compete in the NAIA National Meet on Nov. 21 in Vancouver, Wa.
 
As a team, OLLU placed fourth in the meet, while Northwood University came in first, University of the Southwest in second, Langston University in third, Wiley College in fifth and Paul Quinn College in sixth.

The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) cross-country team competed at the 2009 TLU Invitational Oct. 3 in Seguin, Texas. The race marked the longest distance the Saints have competed in this year.
