EL CAMPO, TEXAS (May 27, 2010) -- El Campo native Laura Echeverria has signed a letter of intent to run for the Saints cross-country team in 2010. She is in the top 25% of her graduating class at El Campo High School and has run track for four years. She has been a Region 3 4-A Track and Field Qualifier for four years and was elected class favorite all four years.

Current students at Our Lady of the Lake University who are interested in joining the cross-country teams as a walk-on are encouraged to contact Head Coach Stephen Sherman. The women's team had much success this year with freshman Miriam Vazquez participating in the NAIA National Championship Meet last fall.

The cross-country team can breathe easy. After nearly four months of competition, the Saints wrapped up their inaugural season by sending freshman Miriam Vazquez to the NAIA national championship meet in Vancouver, Wa., Nov. 21.

Freshman Miriam Vazquez competed in the 30th Annual Women's NAIA Cross Country National Championships Saturday, thus becoming the first OLLU Saints student-athlete to ever advance to the nationals.

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released the qualifiers for the 30th Annual Women's NAIA Cross Country National Championships. Thirty-two teams, including 25 conference/independent/unaffiliated champions, six at-large bids and 117 individual qualifiers, will run in the women's 5K. Representing the Red River Athletic Conference and OLLU will be freshman Miriam Vazquez.
