
VANCOUVER, Wash. (Nov. 19, 2011) –Our Lady of the Lake University's Miriam Vazquez made her third trip in three years to the NAIA Women's Cross-Country National Championships this past Saturday at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site.
Vazquez ran a 21:00 5K, which was good for 273rd place out of 323 runners. This was her highest placing and fastest time she has ran at the NAIA meet. She also finished in sixth place out of 11 runners from the Red River Athletic Conference – two positions better than she finished at the conference tournament a few weeks ago.
2011 Daktronics-NAIA Women's Cross Country Scholar-Athletes
VANCOUVER, Wash. -The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced Friday the names of the women's cross country student-athletes who have been named 2011 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Receiving honors from Our Lady of the Lake University is junior Brandis Hurt.
Student-athletes are nominated by their institution's sports information officer or head coach and must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status in order qualify for the honor.
Hurt was the only selectee from the Red River Athletic Conference.
SAN ANTONIO (Nov. 18, 2011) -- Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) junior cross-country runner Miriam Vazquez is no stranger to the NAIA Championship Tournament. This is her third year qualifying. Vazquez placed seventh in the Red River Athletic Conference Championship with a time of 20:49 in the 5K.
Vazquez says, "I feel pretty good. I expect to do better than the last two years. I'm only worried about the climate. I'll try to make the best of it." Vasquez's family will join her at the tournament.
FORT WORTH, TEXAS (Nov. 4, 2011) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's cross-country team landed in second place with 72 points at the Red River Athletics Conference Championship in Fort Worth. Texas Wesleyan University, host of the tournament, took first place at the meet held at Gateway Park on Friday.
Head coach Stephen Sherman said, "I am extremely, extremely proud of the women. This was an ideal exclamation point on the most successful season yet in our three-year history."
STILLWATER, OKLA. (Oct. 3, 2011) – The Our Lady of the Lake University Saints ran three-minutes faster than they did at the UTSA race a few weeks ago to place 27th in the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree this weekend.
"Oklahoma State's course is much more difficult than UTSA's, so I am proud of our results," said Head Coach Stephen Sherman.
Friends University won the women's team championship – college division -- by posting a team score of 73. Second-place Iowa Central Community College finished with 59 points.
