

SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 9, 2014) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) softball team split a doubleheader with NCAA DIII Trinity University on Sunday afternoon. The Saints won the first game 6-4 in eight innings and lost the second one, 2-3.
Both the Saints and the Trinity Tigers are 1-1 on the season. The Saints' opening games on Saturday did not count toward their record since they were considered scrimmages.
Saints junior Katrisha Arocha pitched the entire game allowing six hits, including one triple. She walked two and struck out four in 33 batters faced.
Brittany Stone doubled to begin the game, and a hit from Megan Perez drove Stone in for the Saints' first run.
In the bottom of the third inning, a triple from Caitlynn Dykes drove in Chrissy Armstrong and Emily Fleischman and the Tigers took the 2-1 lead.
Elizabeth Rodriguez hit a triple to left field in the fourth inning, and a hit from Amanda Hinojosa gave Rodriguez the opportunity to score for the Saints.
The game stayed tied at 2-2 through the top of the seventh inning when Brittany Haby scored on a Saints error. Kaci Welik also scored and the Tigers went ahead 4-2 at the end of regulation.
Ashley Perez was sent to second base on the international tie breaker rule. Megan Perez doubled, sending Ashley Perez to third. Rodriguez also hit a double, allowing both Perez runners to score.
With Trinity unable to score to end the inning, the Saints won 6-4.
Stone led the Saints' offense with three hits on four at bats, including one RBI. Megan Perez, Rodriguez, and Hinojosa each had two hits. Rodriguez had one triple, one double and two RBIs.
Also hitting for the Saints were Jessele Pere and Julie Ramos.
Trinity began the second game with two runs. The Saints scored a run in the fourth inning, and the Tigers added one more run in the fifth. The Saints were able to score in the top of the seventh, but it was not enough to beat the Tigers, and the game ended with the 2-3 loss.
Stone and Jessele Perez scored the two runs for the Saints. Kimberlee Briseno led the team in hits with two. Ashley Perez and Jessele Perez also got hits for the Saints.
Maegan Ramirez started at pitcher going four innings allowing seven hits, three runs and two walks. Hinojosa pitched two innings and faced six batters.
The Saints' games against Texas Southern University on Feb. 11 have been postponed due to weather conditions. The team will travel to Fort Worth this weekend to participate in the Cowtown Senior College Classic at Gateway Park. On Friday, the Saints will face University of St. Mary at 9 a.m., Doane College at 11 a.m. and Belhaven University at 3 p.m. On Saturday, the Saints will play Graceland University at 9 a.m. and the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma at 11 a.m.
