


SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 15, 2014) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's basketball team crushed Paul Quinn College en route to a 103-55 win Saturday night in Mabee Gymnasium.
The fifth 100-plus win of the season moves the Saints to 20-3 overall and remain 10-2 in the Red River Athletic Conference. The Saints are one-and-a-half games behind league-leader Wiley College (12-1/23-2) and one game ahead of Langston University (10-4/14-10). Paul Quinn drops to 2-16 overall.
Head Coach Christopher Minner said, "I thought we played hard, and everyone got to pay and score. We executed our zone offense very well, but we do have two very big games next week, so we need to get better."

The Saints kept the game close through the 10th minute when a 3-pointer from Nashae Owens gave them the 24-14 lead. A sky-hook shot from Nelly Flores took the game to 30-17 and ignited Saints fans. Flores continued to make key plays as she and Courtney Bayliss led the team in scoring with 11 points each at the half with the Saints leading 50-22.
The second half began with a hard foul on OLLU's Destiny Melton that sent her sliding several feet on the court. Thankfully, she got right back up as the Saints went on a 14-0 run to lead 64-22. The Saints continued to keep Paul Quinn gasping for air as they climbed to a 79-28 lead. A layup by Melton took the Saints to 81-28 and the Lady Tigers were able to put seven more points on the board before the Saints reached their biggest lead of 60 with seven minutes remaining in the game. A full-court run by Sequestiny O'Neil gave the Saints the 93-41 lead. Several minutes later, her free throw took the Saints to the century mark at 100-41. Paul Quinn's Brittany Maddex scored the last points of the game with a minute left. Time ran out with the Saints winning 103-55.
Electra Roberts led the team in scoring with 17 points including 8-of-12 from the field and one free throw. Bayliss followed with 16 points, including 7-of-9 from the field and 2-of-3 3-pointers. Flores and Ornela Bacchini each finished with 13 points. The Saints shot 54 percent from the field, 35 percent from 3-point range and 54 percent from the free-throw line. They forced 28 turnovers and recorded 53 rebounds
Paul Quinn's Katora Criner scored 15 points, while teammate Dominique Mitchell finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds. The team shot 31 percent from the field, 27 percent from 3-point range and 80 percent from the free-throw line. The team took 63 total shots, including three 3-pointers, compared to OLLU's 83 shots and 20 3-pointers.
The Saints will return to Mabee Gymnasium on Tuesday to host Huston-Tillotson University at 5:30 p.m.
