SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 19-20, 2016) -- The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) baseball team defeated St. Mary's University 8-3 to close out a tripleheader this evening. The Saints lost the first game yesterday 2-9 and the first game this afternoon 6-10.
The Saints are now 6-8 on the season while the NCAA D2 Rattlers are 8-5.
Bottom of the First Inning: The Rattlers scored two runs. Kyle Jenkins scored after Matt Smith hit a grounder. A single from Jack Kaiser sent Bryan Ramirez home.
Top of the Second Inning: The Saints added a run. Matthew Beasley (JR/Burleson, Texas) reached base on a hit to left field, and with the bases loaded, Joshua Razo walked to send Beasley home.
Bottom of the Fourth Inning: A single from Jenkins scored both Donnie Perez and Zach Johnson to put the Rattlers ahead 4-1.
Top of the Fifth Inning: TJ Kassner (FR/Corpus Christi, Texas) hit his first home run to give the Saints their second run.
Bottom of the Sixth Inning: Jacob Marler scored after a Saints error in right field to give the Rattlers the 5-2 lead.
Bottom of the Seventh Inning: Kaiser hit a home run to start the inning, and the Rattlers improved to 6-2.
Bottom of the Eighth Inning: A double from Smith sent Ramirez home, and another double from Johnson scored Kaiser and Smith to give the Rattlers the 9-2 win.
Pitching: OLLU's JB Martinez (FR/San Antonio, Texas) suffered his first loss of the season after he pitched six innings and allowed eight hits and five runs while striking out four and walking two.
St. Mary's Ty Miles earned the win after pitching seven innings and allowing six hits and two runs while striking out one and walking four.
Leading Hitters: OLLU - TJ Kassner went 2-for-4 and had one run and one RBI.
St. Mary's – Jack Kaiser and Angel Vega both went 3-for-5.
Top of the First Inning: The Saints opened the game with three runs. Kassner reached first on a hit, and Garrett Harrison (FR/Victoria, Texas) touched first. Another hit from Anthony DeJesus (SR/Sugarland, Texas) scored Kassner. Manny Galvan (JR/Baytown, Texas) singled to left to send Harrison home. Despite Chance Evans (SO/Cleveland, Texas) hitting into a double play, DeJesus was able to score to put the Saints ahead 3-0.
Bottom of the First Inning: The Rattlers added two runs. A hit from Kaiser scored Ramirez, and a single from Vega scored Kaiser to move the game to 3-2 in favor of the Saints.
Top of the Third Inning: A hit from Evans gave Harrison the opportunity to score to give the Saints the 4-2 lead.
Bottom of the Third Inning: The Rattlers took the 6-4 lead after scoring four runs. Jenkins hit a double, and a single from Kaiser sent him home. Vega got a hit to score Ramirez. Smith reached home on an error, and Kaiser scored on a fielder's choice.
Bottom of the Fourth Inning: The Rattlers added three more runs to take the 9-4 lead. A double from Kaiser sent Smith and Ramirez home. A hit from Johnson scored Kaiser.
Bottom of the Sixth Inning: Vegas reached second on a double, and he later scored to give the Rattlers the 10-4 lead.
Top of the Seventh Inning: The Saints were able to add two more runs to the board. With the bases loaded, a walk from DeJesus scored Austin Gallego (SR/Bryan, Texas). Kassner also scored to end the game with a Saints 6-10 loss..
Pitching: OLLU – Jordan Hackett (SO/San Antonio, Texas) suffered the loss for the Saints. He pitched four innings and allowed 10 hits and nine runs, while walking to.
St. Mary's – Cole Hybner earned the win after pitching six innings and allowing eight hits and four runs while striking out five and walking two.
St. Mary's – Kaiser and Vega both went 3-for-4, with Kaiser recording four RBIs.
Top of the First Inning: With the bases loaded, and a walk by Luis Castellanos (FR/San Antonio, Texas), Kassner scored for the Saints. Beasley also walked, and Harrison was able to score to give the Saints the 2-0 lead.
Bottom of the First Inning: A groundout by Smith sent Jenkins home to move the game to 2-1.
Top of the Second Inning: The Saints added another run after Beasley hit a single to send Gallego home and the Saints took a 3-1 lead.
Top of the Third Inning: Kassner had an RBI single that scored Evans to give the Saints the 5-1 lead. Harrison also had an RBI single that sent Ryan Ramsey (FR/Grapevine, Texas) home.
Bottom of the Fifth Inning: A two RBI single from Kaiser scored Ramirez and Jenkins to move the game to 5-3 in favor of the Saints.
Top of the Eighth Inning: Kassner hit another RBI single that scored Evans. Gallego stole home, and Kassner scored on a hit from DeJesus to give the Saints the 8-3 lead.
Pitching: OLLU – Gabriel Raygoza (JR/San Antonio, Texas) earned his first win after he pitched 7.1 innings and allowed nine hits and three runs while striking out five and walking six.
St. Mary's – Jaryd Hodgson suffered the loss after he pitched three innings and allowed seven hits and five runs while striking out seven and walking two.
St. Mary's – Jenkins went 2-for-4.
UP NEXT: The Saints will return home to host Texas Wesleyan University on Feb. 27 and Feb. 28.
