SAN ANTONIO (April 8-9, 2016) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) baseball team dropped a Red River Athletic Conference series to Jarvis Christian College this week. The Saints lost the first three games, and then pulled off a close win to end the series.
The 1-4, 1-7, 4-5 losses and 6-5 win moves the Saints to 20-22 overall and 12-11 in the conference. Jarvis improves to 18-22 overall and 14-9 in conference. The Saints are now five games behind first-place LSU-Alexandria (16-4/22-18). LSU-Shreveport (13-7/25-13) and the University of Houston-Victoria (13-7/16-21) are three games behind, while Jarvis is four games behind first place. Following OLLU are Wiley College (9-10/14-23), the University of the Southwest (9-11/13-28), Huston-Tillotson University (6-18/15-22) and Texas College (2-17/4-23).

GAME ONE
JB Martinez (FR/San Antonio, Texas) started on the mound for the Saints, and he kept the game scoreless through the third inning, when Jarvis scored two runs. A hit from DeAndre McGuire sent Koby Greene home. Martinez's wild pitch sent Ryan Emerald home to give the Bulldogs the 2-0 lead.
The Bulldogs scored another run in the fifth inning. McGuire went home after Elon Chamberlain hit a sacrifice bunt, and Jarvis' lead went to 3-0.
Nico Maldonado hit a triple in the sixth inning, and a hit from Green sent Maldonado home to give Jarvis the 4-0 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Anthony DeJesus (SR/Sugarland, Texas) doubled to left, and a hit from Matthew Beasley (JR/Burleson, Texas) gave DeJesus the opportunity to score. The game ended with the Saints losing 1-4.
Pitching: JB Martinez went all seven innings for the Saints, and he allowed four runs, four hits and seven walks, while striking out three. Emilio Griego recorded the win, allowing three hits, while striking out three.
Hitting: Anthony DeJesus and Enrique Ruiz III (SO/Helotes, Texas) both went 1-3 for the Saints. DeAndre McGuire went 2-3 and had one RBI for Jarvis.
GAME TWO
Jordan Hackett (SO/San Antonio, Texas) took the mound for the Saints, and Jarvis opened the game with two runs. Javion Randle hit a triple to score Ryan Emerald. A groundout by Carlos Andrade sent Randle home to give Jarvis the 2-0 lead.
Jarvis scored another run in the second inning. Nico Maldonado scored after Jhonathan Mendoza hit a sacrifice bunt. Jarvis took the 3-0 lead.
OLLU put its first run on the board in the fourth inning. TJ Kassner (FR/Corpus Christi, Texas) hit a double, and a single from Chance Evans (SO/Cleveland, Texas) gave Kassner the chance to score. The game moved to 3-1.
In the sixth inning, Randle scored after a Saints' error, and Jarvis took the 4-1 lead.
Jarvis put the game out of reach in the eighth inning after scoring three more runs. A hit from Salvador Alvarado Jr. sent Angel Merced and Maldonado home. Mendoza scored after another Saints' error. Jarvis ended the game with the 7-1 win.
Pitching: Hackett suffered the loss after pitching eight innings and allowing 10 hits and seven runs, while striking out six and walking two. Ivan Herrera (SO/Edinburg, Texas) pitched the last inning and struck out one and walked one.
Elias Novelo earned the win, after allowing five hits, while striking out six.
Hitting: Matthew Beasley went 2-3 for the Saints, and TJ Kassner went 2-4. Javion Randle went 3-4 for Jarvis.
GAME THREE
OLLU's John Garcia (SO/Victoria, Texas) kept the game scoreless through the third inning, when Jarvis put four runs on the board. Jhonathan Mendoza scored on a fielder's choice that put Ryan Emerald on base. Javion Randle singled, and a hit from Carlos Andrade sent Emerald home. Caleb Gilder hit a sacrifice fly to send Randle home, and a hit from Chase Martinez scored Andrade to give the Bulldogs the 4-0 lead.
The Saints put two runs on the board in the fifth inning. Tyler Davis (SR/Weatherford, Texas) hit a bunt and reached second base on a Jarvis error, and both Darius Patton (JR/San Antonio, Texas) and TJ Kassner came home. The game moved to 4-2.
OLLU tied the game in the sixth inning. Anthony DeJesus hit a double, and Matthew Beasley followed with another double to send DeJesus home. David Perez III (JR/El Paso, Texas) came in to pinch run for Beasley, and he scored after Enrique Ruiz III grounded out. The game tied at 4-4.
Jarvis scored the winning run in the seventh inning. Randle reached first on a hit, and a double from Salvador Alvarado Jr. sent Randle home. After the Saints failed to score in the bottom of the seventh, Jarvis won 5-4.
Pitching: John Garcia suffered the loss for the Saints. He allowed nine hits, while striking out six and walking three.
Dylan Martinelli earned the win after pitching 1.2 innings.
Tyler Davis went 1-3 and recorded two RBIs. Matthew Beasley went 2-3 and recorded on RBI.
Javion Randle went 4-4 for the Bulldogs.
GAME FOUR
David Marte (SR/Boston, Mass.) started the game for the Saints on the mound. He kept Jarvis scoreless through three innings. The Saints ended the third with three runs. A triple from TJ Kassner sent Josh Razo (SR/Pearland, Texas) and Darius Patton home. A wild pitch by Jarvis' Luis Loya gave Kassner the go ahead to score. The Saints took the 3-0 lead.
Jarvis put one run on the board in the fourth inning. A fielder's choice by Romeo Ramirez sent Javion Randle home, and the game moved to 3-1.
A hit from Razo sent Chance Evans in to score in the fourth inning, and the Saints took the 4-1 lead.
Tyler Davis walked to first in the fifth inning for the Saints, and he later scored after a wild throw by Jhonathan Mendoza. The run gave the Saints the 5-1 lead.
Randle hit a double to begin the sixth inning. Alex Torres (JR/Oxnard, Calif.) came in to relieve Marte on the mound. A balk by Torres sent Randle home, and the game moved to 5-2.
A triple by Razo in the sixth inning sent Connor Kalisky (JR/San Antonio, Texas) home, giving the Saints the 6-2 lead.
In the top of the seventh inning, Mendoza scored, and the Saints now led 6-3.
Jarvis threatened to get its fourth win in the ninth inning. Alvarado got to base first with a single. Randle walked to first, and Andrade hit a single to send Alvarado home. Carlos Martinez hit into a double play, but Randle was still able to score. Nico Maldonado hit a double, but with two outs, Ryan Emerald grounded out to end the game with the Saints winning 6-5.
Pitching: David Marte earned the win for the Saints after pitching five innings and allowing four hits and two runs on three strikeouts. Jesus Ramirez (FR/Quitman, Texas) got the save for the Saints after he pitched 1.1 innings and allowed three hits and two runs.
Luis Loya suffered the loss after he pitched four innings. He allowed four runs and four hits while striking out two.
Hitting: Josh Razo led the Saints after going 2-3 with two RBIs. DeAndre McGuire went 2-3 for Jarvis.
The Saints will be on the round for their next games. They will be in Shawnee, Okla. April 15-16 to play two doubleheaders against Saint Gregory's University.
