SHREVEPORT, LA. (May 9, 2016) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) baseball team fell to LSU Alexandria (LSUA) 9-1 on Saturday at the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament. The Saints end their season with a 29-28 record and 18-14 in conference. LSUA went on to defeat Jarvis Christian College 6-1 to advance to the championship game against LSU-Shreveport, where they lost to the Pilots 11-1.
John Garcia (SO/Victoria, Texas) started on the mound for the Saints. Logan Constantine hit a double to score Ziggy Sloan and put the Generals ahead 1-0 in the first inning.
In the bottom of the third inning, the Generals added two more runs. A Saints' error gave Sloan the opportunity to score, and Constantine came home after a wild pitch by Garcia. The Generals now led 3-0.
The Saints got on the board in the fourth inning, after Garrett Harrison (FR/Victoria, Texas) hit a sacrifice fly to send TJ Kassner (FR/Corpus Christi, Texas) home.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Matt Telesco grounded into a double play, but Constantine was able to come home to score. The Generals took the 4-1 lead.
LSUA started a four-run rally in the sixth inning. Trace Oliva hit a double, and Sloan singled to send Trey Caswell and Oliva home. Chase Smith (JR/La Porte, Texas) came in to relieve Garcia on the mound. Constantine hit another double, and Sloan came home. A hit from Matt Telesco gave Constantine the go-ahead to score, and the Generals increased their lead to 8-1.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Jesus Ramirez (FR/Quitman, Texas) started on the mound for the Saints after replacing David Marte (SR/Boston, Mass.). A single from PJ Leto Jr. sent Ross Durke home. After the Saints were not able to score in the top of the ninth inning, the Generals won 9-1.
John Garcia suffered the loss for the Saints after he pitched 5.1 innings and allowed 10 hits, seven runs and one walk. He struck out four.
Adam Hines pitched the entire game to earn the win. He allowed three hits, while striking out 13.
TJ Kassner, Anthony DeJesus (SR/Sugarland, Texas) and Josh Razo (SR/Pearland, Texas) each had one hit for the Saints.
Logan Constantine led the Generals after hitting four hits on five at-bats. He scored three runs and recorded two RBIs.
