VICTORIA, TEXAS (Feb. 20, 2017) -- The final round of the University of Houston-Victoria (UHV) Claud Jacobs Collegiate Invitational was washed out today due to severe weather in the area. With that said, the Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's golf A team will finish in third place, while the B team will finish in a tie for sixth place.
Head Coach Alan E. Baxter said, "We came in third, which is incredibly disappointing. It was unfortunate that the third round was canceled. It robbed us an opportunity to charge and improve our position. However, we all knew inclement weather was in the forecast, and I warned the team before we started on Sunday that this could happen. Our first round was our worst of the year. Tomorrow is never promised and you have to bring your lunch box and hard hat every shot. I hope they learned from this. We will work very hard this week to prepare for TPC San Antonio, which will have the strongest field in the NAIA this year. We need to play well and we will work toward that goal all week. We will announce the starting five on Friday."
Finishing in first place is Wayland Baptist with an overall 595 after posting a first round 303 and second round 292. They were followed by Tyler Junior College at 598 (305/293).
The Saints were led by Rafael Jauregui (JR/Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico) (JR/Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico), who tied for seventh overall.
