HOBBS, N.M. (Oct. 12, 2017) – The Our Lady of the Lake University's (OLLU) men's soccer team has won its fifth straight Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) game after shutting out the University of the Southwest (USW) 2-0. The Saints improve to 6-5 overall and 5-1 in conference, while the Mustangs drop to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in conference.
The teams have played each other 13 times since 2007 and the Saints have won 10 of those games. Last season, the Saints won 1-0 and in 2015 in the conference tournament, the Saints won the shootout 4-3.
Head Coach Shane Hurley said, "It was not one of our best performances, but we had a pretty good attitude and commitment to dealing with challenges that developed. The team was disciplined and worked hard to grind out the win. We need to play consistently with more vision and recognition going into the next two weeks."
Both teams had five shots in the first half and went into the break scoreless. The Saints came back into the second half to score two goals to win the game. Adrian Delgado recorded his ninth goal of the season on a penalty kick outside of the box. The ball went into the net off the right post. Roger Rizzi scored six minutes later off a chip in past the keeper.
