SAN ANTONIO (Nov. 2, 2017) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) women's basketball team opened its season with a 96-64 win over Texas A&M International University (TAMIU).
The game is an exhibition for the Dustdevils.
The Saints were led by sophomore Kasey Saldana (SO/San Antonio, Texas), who tallied 19 points. In the first quarter, the Saints led 15-9, and in the second quarter they were ahead 35-16. After the 50-25 lead at the half, the Saints and Dustdevils kept it competitive in the third quarter, but the Saints still had the 27-25 edge. In the final quarter, the Saints led 19-14.
Kasey Saldana led the Saints in scoring with 6-of-12 from the field, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range, and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe. Francesca Patrick (SR/Killeen, Texas) added 18 points, making 7-of-9 from the field and four free throws.
TAMIU's Tantashea Giger led her team with 15 points.
OLLU's Jayme Slay (JR/Vallejo, Calif.) led the Saints in rebounding with 10. TAMIU was led by Passionate Amukamara, who had 10 rebounds.
Patrick recorded four assists, while Regina Sheffield (JR/Menitee, Calif.) tallied three steals for the Saints.

OLLU combined for 34-of-72 shooting for 47.2 percent, 7-of-15 from beyond the arc for 46.7 percent, and 21-of-31 from the charity stripe for 67.7 percent. TAMIU was 25-of-63 for 39.7 percent, 5-of-19 in 3-point attempts for 26.3 percent, and 9-of-21 free throws for 42.9 percent.
OLLU collected 40 total rebounds, while TAMIU added 43. OLLU forced 28 turnovers and committed 15.
The Saints will play next against NAIA Southwestern Assemblies of God University on Nov. 4.
