SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 5, 2018) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) basketball games against Langston University on Jan. 4 marked the 500th livestreaming broadcast for Michael Thompson. During the halftime of the Saints men's game, OLLU Athletic Director Jack Hank, Senior Women's Athletic Administrator Adrienne Rodriguez and Women's Head Basketball Coach Christopher Minner presented Thompson with a certificate of accomplishment. All three have been part of the university's athletic program since its inaugural season in 2007.
The certificate read: On behalf of the Our Lady of the Lake University community, we commemorate your momentous achievement. Your talents, dedication and tireless efforts have elevated the OLLU Athletics program to the pinnacle of NAIA live-broadcasting. This certificate is presented with grateful appreciation and in recognition of 10 years of valued service as the "Voice of the Saints."
Thompson began his foray in college broadcasting at OLLU in 2009 when the Saints began competing in basketball through the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). He led OLLU's effort in becoming among the first in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) to live stream its home games. Thompson also started broadcasting the Saints' softball games that year, and men's and women's soccer games and volleyball games in 2010. In 2014, Thompson started live broadcasting the baseball home games.
Sports Information Director Patty Constantin said: "We are lucky to have someone like Michael to be at the helm of our live-streaming program. From the beginning, he gathered all the information needed to produce a professional broadcast that would allow fans from all over the state, throughout the country and around the world to watch Saints athletics from the comfort of their home. Many of the families of our international athletes have expressed their appreciation to us for giving them the opportunity to watch their kids play on their computer-we have Michael to thank for that.
"Through the years, Michael has consistently improved our broadcasts with the addition of graphics, supplementing the program with scoreboards, stats and much more. This year, he helped us secure the purchase of Stretch Internet, one of the premier live-streaming programs in college athletics. In his broadcasts, Michael always maintains a high level of professionalism, remaining neutral so that fans from the opposing teams can also enjoy the games. He has also been asked to broadcast conference tournaments. We thank Michael for his service, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with him for many years to come."
