SAN ANTONIO (April 11, 2018) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) softball split a nonconference doubleheader with NCAA D3 Trinity University Tuesday evening. The Saints lost an ugly first game 5-1, and then came back to sneak by on a 1-0 win over the Tigers. The Saints are now 20-8, while Trinity moves to 16-17.
The Saints are 7-8 against the Tigers. Last season, the Saints split their doubleheader, winning the first game 9-3 and losing the second one 8-15.
Head Coach James Kling commented, "I am glad we were able to salvage a split with Trinity."
Game One
After a scoreless first inning with OLLU pitcher Ciera Martinez (FR/San Antonio, Texas) in the circle, the Tigers scored scored four runs. The bases were loaded, all from walks, and Devon Potter's walk sent Rebecca Berreth home. Taylor Doege (SR/San Antonio, Texas) came in to relieve Martinez. Hailey Wilson got a single, and Marisa Trevino scored. With the bases still loaded, Emily Reed walked, sending Rylie Goldwait home, and Stephanie Crumrine followed with another walk to send Potter home. The Tigers took the 4-0 lead
In the third inning, Trevino doubled, and Potter got a hit to send Trevino home to give the Tigers the 5-0 lead.
Cela Hernandez (SO/San Antonio, Texas) came in for Doege in the circle in the fourth inning. In the sixth inning, Amanda Guerra (JR/Stafford, Texas) drove in Alexis Macias (SR/San Antonio, Texas) to give the Saints their first run. The game ended with the Saints losing 5-1.
Martinez suffered the loss on her 1.1 pitching performance. She allowed four runs, while walking five and striking out two. Doege pitched 1.2 innings and allowed six hits and one run. Hernandez pitched three innings and allowed two hits.
Guerra went 1-3, adding one RBI. Macias went 1-3, adding one run.
Game Two
Martinez started in the circle for the Saints in the second game. She held the Tigers to no runs through seven innings, allowing just three hits, while striking out six and walking two.
In the fifth inning, on two outs, Kristina Tiffany (JR/San Antonio, Texas) doubled to left. Macias hit an infield single. After a wild pitch from Brianna Pena, Macias advanced to second and Tiffany came home to score.
Tiffany went 2-4, adding one run. Macias went 2-2.

The Saints will return to Trinity University to play another doubleheader on April 21. The series begins at noon.
