
KANSAS CITY, MO. (May 30, 2018) – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced Wednesday the women's softball student-athletes who have been named 2018 Daktronics-NAIA Women's Softball Scholar-Athletes. From Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU), Taylor Doege (SR/San Antonio, Texas), Lauren Guerra (SR/El Paso, Texas) and Alexis Macias (SR/San Antonio, Texas) have earned this honor.
In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved junior academic status.
Doege, Guerra and Macias finished out their collegiate softball career this spring. Doege and Guerra joined the team in 2015 and played four years for the Saints; Macias joined the team in 2016 and played three years. All received their bachelor's degree from OLLU on May 11.
Doege, who earned a 3.59 GPA, received all-conference and all-tournament awards this season. Her career accomplishments include: 2015 Louisville Slugger/NFCA-NAIA All-Region Team Second Team; 2015 NFCA All-Academic Team; 2015 All-Conference; 2015 Conference Scholar Athlete; 2016 NFCA All-American Second Team; 2016 NAIA All-American Second Team; 2016 RRAC Player of the Year; 2016 NAIA All Region First Team; 2016 All-Conference; Three-time 2016 Conference Player of the Week; Four-time Conference Scholar Athlete; 2017 All-Conference First Team; 2017 NFCA-NAIA All Region Second Team; 2017 Scholar Athlete; Conference Player of the Week; 2015, 2016, 2017 NAIA Scholar Team.
Guerra, who earned a 3.52 GPA, was selected to this year's Champions of Character team. Her career accomplishments include: Four-time Conference Scholar Athlete; Three-time Champions of Character award; 2017 Champions of Character Athlete of the Week; Dean's List.
Macias, who earned a 3.52 GPA, transferred to OLLU from Chipola College. She has earned Conference Scholar Athlete recognition all three years at OLLU.
